![]() ![]() It felt clumsy and could've used a lot more polish before publication.Īnother of my major problems with the book lies with the main character (and pretty much all the others too, but I'll stick to Sophia for now). As a reader, it felt like the author had a list and was trying to tick it off. The characters were herded from one plot point to the next, stumbling along, barely able to keep up. ![]() I will, however, comment on the structure of the book: There's nothing wrong with a very plot-driven book, but when you read a book and you can just tell which plot points were listed on the first outline, it's not a very well-written book. I had trouble getting into the book from almost the first page because of the writing style, but I won't comment on that further, since that's just a matter of personal taste. But, unfortunately, while the idea was good, I found the execution severely lacking. A new twist on the Cinderella fairy tale, with sapphic girls of colour overthrowing the patriarchy and falling in love along the way? It sounds right up my alley. ![]() ![]() Listen, I admire the intention of this book, don't get me wrong. ![]()
